Reagan Walking Club
Welcome to the first annual Reagan Walking Club. The club (for 3rd – 5th grades only) will take place in the new gym on every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 – 8:25 a.m. for approximately 8 weeks starting on October 6th. Each morning the students will spend approximately 5 minutes stretching and getting warmed-up for the 20 minutes of walking. Why are we walking? Walking is one of the healthiest, safest, and easiest ways to improve your health. Fitness or aerobic walking uses all of the major muscle groups in the upper and lower body in a non-impacting, dynamic, rhythmic action, which is what an ideal exercise should do. It not only strengthens your legs, but also strengthens your HEART!
Each morning the students will log how far they have walked. Some days they will be logging their steps using a pedometer, while other days, they will be logging their completed laps. We will try to see how far our club has walked across the United States.
If you would like your child to participate in the walking club, forms (in the Sept. 18th newsletter) need to be returned it to Mr. Olson no later than September 25th. Due to the large number of Reagan students, the club will be limited to the first 40 students. If there is a large demand, the club will continue in the second semester.
